NBA RURAL HERITAGE AND
TIMBER FRAME BARN CURRICULUM
INTRO
Education is the foundation of our nation. Heritage education is the framework of the history of our peoples and as a tradition, must be handed down to successive generations as a body of knowledge. Rural traditions along with the populations have been disappearing from our landscape since the 1920’s in America. Millions of American school children now live in cities and towns and have no contact with these rural traditions. In these days of more intense education requirements it is refreshing to know there is a heritage curriculum that has lessons that have been designed to meet the newer national requirements.
This free education curriculum was developed by rural teachers in Iowa during a grant project co-funded by the Silos and Smokestacks National Heritage Area and the State Historical Society of Iowa. The 5th-8th grade lessons are grouped according to subject. The Extension activities are based upon the wonderful rural based 4H youth leadership development program operated in counties across America by the University Extension Program.
In order for us to effectively track the use of and feedback from the use of the curriculum, we are asking that you fill out a form with some basic information about your self and promise to provide user feedback to us. Your contact information will not be released to any one, but your comments and suggestions will improve our efforts and provide backing for our efforts to access additional funding for more curriculum.
Please indicate your interest by writing to Rod Scott, Administrator. He will respond and send you the sign up form, after which he will give you the access code to the page of educational links.
